Travel by bus with an escort to Syracuse, one of the oldest Greek colonies in Sicily, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Meet the local guide and visit the Archaeological Area dating back to the 5th century BC, featuring the Greek Theatre, the Roman Amphitheater, the Altar of Hieron II, and the Latomies of Paradise with the Ear of Dionysius. Next, explore the historic center of the island of Ortigia, including the Temple of Apollo, the Cathedral—an important Baroque church built on an ancient temple—the Hypogeum, and the Fountain of Arethusa with its famous papyrus plant. Free time for shopping or an optional lunch at traditional restaurants in Foro Italico. Extra entrance fees apply. Appropriate attire is recommended for visiting sacred sites. Expected return to Taormina around 6:00 PM.
