DAY 4: STINTINO, ASINARA ISLAND & PALMAVERA (KM 100)
-
Breakfast at the hotel. Today you are free to relax and explore the surroundings, take a swim, or spend the day in Stintino, on Asinara Island, and at the Nuraghe of Palmavera.
-
Suggested itinerary: Head northwest towards Stintino.
Stintino is a small village located just over fifty minutes from Alghero. Bathed by turquoise sea, it offers one of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia and Europe: La Pelosa beach, composed of white sand and "Caribbean" sea. Also very beautiful are the beaches of Ezzi Mannu and Saline, the rocky coves of Cala Grande and Cala Coscia di Donna, the ancient watchtowers such as Torre della Pelosa, Torre delle Saline, and Torre del Falcone. The Tonnara Museum is very interesting, telling the history of the village through clothes, old fishermen’s diaries, typical tuna fishing tools, and boat replicas.
Asinara Island: Named after the famous albino donkeys living on the island, which is a true earthly paradise. Famous for the maximum security prison established there in the 1960s, it became a protected National Park in 1997. It consists of a main port (Cala Reale), the Royal Palace, once belonging to the Savoy family and now the Park headquarters, a small church, and a single inhabited village: Cala d’Oliva. This small island offers beautiful coves and beaches surrounded by blue sea. On the island, it is possible to visit the former penal colony, inside which, instead of the prison, there is now a museum. Also interesting and visitable are the Asinara sea turtle rescue center and the Asinara farm, where soaps and cosmetics made from donkey milk are produced.
Palmavera Nuragic complex: built in a bay by the Romans between the 15th and 10th centuries BC, called the Port of the Nymphs, this nuraghe made of limestone and sandstone is one of the most important. It is called a complex because it consists of several towers connected to each other. Specifically, it is composed of: a central body with two towers, an outer wall, and a village of huts. The various parts were built in different phases. The visit to this very interesting nuragic complex will be truly unmissable. Return to the hotel. Overnight in hotel.
DAY 5: COSTA SMERALDA & DEPARTURE
- Breakfast at the hotel. Check-out at 10:00. Head to the airport and, before returning the car, if you wish, you can visit the Costa Smeralda.
- Suggested itinerary: Today’s visit begins with "The Nuraghe La Prisgiona" in the Municipality of Arzachena, one of the 7000 circular towers dating back to the Bronze Age. This megalithic culture is unique throughout the Mediterranean area and is one of the most important archaeological monuments in Sardinia. Afterwards, you can cross the magical mountain village of San Pantaleo, with its fascinating granite formations, to reach the Costa Smeralda. Continue towards Baia Sardinia, one of the most sought-after destinations of the Costa Smeralda, thanks to its wonderful beaches. Along the panoramic route of the Costa Smeralda, you can discover numerous bays with emerald-colored sand that inspired the founder, Karim Aga Khan, to expand this coastal strip until it became the most famous and exclusive holiday paradise for jet-set tourism. Visit the fashion capital, Porto Cervo, and discover the fashion boutiques, exclusive restaurants, and the large marina. Transfer to the airport, return the car, and end of our services.
