-
Breakfast at the hotel. This day is free for you to relax and explore the city independently, and in the afternoon you will drive toward the Sorrento area.
Suggested itinerary: Before leaving for Sorrento, we suggest visiting the Vatican Museums, a huge complex of galleries containing some of the most important Italian works of art, from paintings and sculptures to tapestries and classical antiquities. Adjacent to St. Peter's Basilica, the kilometers of corridors of the Vatican Museums connect buildings and courtyards that house the Picture Gallery, the Egyptian Museum, the Tapestry Gallery, the Pio-Clementine Museum, and the Gallery of Maps. But the crown jewels are the Sistine Chapel, famous for Michelangelo's ceiling and the Last Judgment, and the 16th-century frescoes in Raphael's Rooms. Drive to Sorrento. Overnight in the Sorrento area.

Excavations, which began in the 18th century, continue to this day. Walk along some of the ancient streets where you can see the baths, forums, and villas built by wealthy Romans around 80 BC. It is almost incredible how the fabulous frescoes that adorn the walls and floors of the villas have been preserved. In the afternoon, drive to Caserta to visit the Royal Palace of Caserta, commissioned in the 18th century by Charles of Bourbon, King of Naples and Sicily, and known as the largest royal residence in the world.
