DAY 1: ARRIVAL
Arrival at Florence airport. After collecting the rental car, reach Montecatini Terme in the Florence area. Free time to explore the city on your own. Overnight in Montecatini Terme.
DAY 2: SIENA & SAN GIMIGNANO
Breakfast at the hotel. Today you are free to relax and explore the city on your own or you can choose to spend the day in Siena and San Gimignano.
Suggested itinerary: Head to the Chianti area, which stretches between Siena and Florence and has given rise to one of the most famous wines, Chianti. Let yourself be enchanted by one of the most magnificent landscapes of hills, fields, numerous vineyards, and olive groves. You can discover San Gimignano, whose towering towers are visible from afar. To see: the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, the Palazzo del Popolo with the Civic Museum, and Piazza della Cisterna with its beautiful fountain. Reach Siena. The medieval city of Siena is a work of art from the Gothic period. With its winding historic center and narrow streets paved with Sienese clay bricks, reddish-brown tall buildings, it seems as if the clock of the centuries has stopped. The historic center, on its three hills grouped in the shape of three stars, is famous for its Palazzo Pubblico and its Torre del Mangia (88 meters high). From here you enjoy a splendid view of the famous and beautiful Piazza del Campo. Overnight in Montecatini Terme.
DAY 3: PISA & LUCCA
Breakfast at the hotel. Today you are free to relax and explore the city on your own or you can choose to dedicate the day to visiting Pisa and Lucca.
Suggested itinerary: The Leaning Tower of Pisa has made it famous worldwide. During your day trip you can admire the Piazza dei Miracoli, the unique composition of the Cathedral, the Leaning Tower, the Baptistery, and the Campo Santo. The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is a masterpiece of Italian architecture. Inside the Baptistery you can visit the hexagonal pulpit by Nicola Pisano. Very particular, in its own way, is the Cemetery, which has the shape of a monumental cloister. Reach Lucca and visit this splendid medieval city with the Guinigi Tower and the Clock Tower. From these points you enjoy a splendid view over the roofs of the Tuscan city, a panorama that allows you to appreciate its beauty and harmony, and to find the same urban structure built by the Romans. Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, named for what was already said in this space now occupied by one of the most beautiful squares in Italy. The Church of San Michele, also called the Forum, is a place where the center of ancient Lucca once stood. Overnight in Montecatini Terme.
DAY 4: TRASIMENO LAKE, PERUGIA & ASSISI
Breakfast at the hotel. Today you are free to relax and explore the city on your own or you can choose to dedicate the day to visiting Lake Trasimeno, Perugia, and Assisi.
Suggested itinerary: Crossing the Tuscan countryside, the first town you will encounter is Passignano sul Trasimeno, a small medieval village with ancient walls and a beautiful fortress. The town hosts a famous tourist center in a magical position offering a breathtaking view of the enchanting lake and the surrounding islands. After this visit, proceed through the suggestive landscape until you reach the hill where the ancient city of Perugia rises. The evidence of its Etruscan origin is preserved in the travertine walls and the comfortable town center. Perugia is one of the most appreciated Italian art cities, with a beautiful square from which you can admire architectural jewels such as the superb Palazzo dei Priori and the splendid Cathedral next to the Loggia. The elegant Fontana Maggiore is another breathtaking masterpiece. Reach Assisi, the characteristic town where the patron saint of Italy, Saint Francis of Assisi, lived, worked, and died. The city of Assisi is located at the foot of Mount Subasio. Upon arrival, you should first visit the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, built to protect the famous church of the "Porziuncola." Here you can also see the "rose bush without thorns." Reach the center of Assisi where you can visit the civil and religious artistic heritage of the city. Admire the splendid Gothic Basilica dedicated to Saint Clare, the Renaissance New Church with an elegant dome, and the Roman temple of Minerva which still preserves the façade from the 1st century AD. Discover the 14th-century Monte Frumentario and finally visit the famous and beautiful Basilica of Saint Francis, a UNESCO heritage site, built with the white-pink stone from Mount Subasio. Inside the Basilica are preserved the wonderful fresco cycles by Cimabue, Giotto, Simone Martini, and Lorenzetti. Breathe the special atmosphere of serenity and joy that this city emanates and you will understand why it was chosen as a symbol of Peace by delegates of the world's main religions. Return to Montecatini and overnight.
